Mijares advises Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners on the financing of La Esperanza Solar
Mijares, Angoitia, Cortés y Fuentes, S.C. advised Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) on the Mexican law aspects of the financing of La Esperanza Solar, a 420 MWdc solar photovoltaic project combined with a 150 MW/5-hour (750 MWh) energy storage system located in the State of Campeche, in the Yucatán Peninsula.
La Esperanza Solar recently achieved financial close and is moving forward with its construction phase, marking a significant step for CIP in the development of its project portfolio in Mexico.
La Esperanza Solar is one of the largest combined solar energy and battery storage projects in Mexico. The project will contribute to strengthening the reliability, resilience and flexibility of the electricity system in the Yucatán Peninsula, while supporting greater integration of renewable energy into the national power grid.
Commercial operations are expected to begin in 2028.
The financing of the La Esperanza Solar project comprises credit facilities of approximately USD 510 million, provided by a consortium of five international and regional commercial banks: BNP Paribas, JPMorgan Chase Bank, Natixis CIB, Santander and Scotiabank.
The Mijares team was led by Partner Horacio M. de Uriarte, with the participation of Associates Aisha Calderón, Francisco Romero, María Fernanda Picazo, Marielle Labastida and Mariel Backal, as well as Ana Lucía Pérez, a law clerk at the Firm.
