Multiva Finalizes Acquisition of CIBanco’s Trust Business

On August 19, 2025, Banco Multiva, S.A., Institución de Banca Múltiple, Grupo Financiero Multiva (Multiva) entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the trust and common representative business of CIBanco, S.A., Institución de Banca Múltiple (CIBanco). The transaction is the result of a competitive process supervised by the Institute for the Protection of Bank Savings (IPAB), the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), and the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV).

With this transaction, Multiva will assume the administration of more than 3,500 trusts and mandates, which hold assets amounting to several tens of billions of pesos, thereby strengthening its position in the Mexican trust market. The institution has announced that it will maintain the technological infrastructure and service standards currently operated by CIBanco and will implement strict regulatory and operational controls—with ongoing oversight from the CNBV—to preserve the integrity of managed assets and protect the interests of clients and beneficiaries.

The legal and operational transfer is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2025, subject to final regulatory approvals. During the transition period, Multiva will integrate specialized teams, update internal anti-money laundering policies, and standardize cybersecurity processes with the aim of ensuring an orderly and transparent migration, without significant interruptions to the daily operation of the trusts.

For now, CIBanco’s clients and beneficiaries are not required to take any immediate action; they will receive formal notifications in accordance with regulatory timelines and applicable contractual clauses. It is recommended to maintain regular contact with account executives to stay informed about migration schedules and any documentation that may require updating. Multiva will continue to provide timely updates regarding relevant regulatory and operational milestones.
