María Fernanda has been involved strategic areas such as energy, project finance, mergers and acquisitions, and in local and international financing, refinancing, and debt restructuring transactions, representing both borrowers and domestic and foreign lenders. Her experience also includes participating in advising on governmental authorizations for energy and infrastructure projects.

María Fernanda holds a Law degree from Universidad Iberoamericana. Prior to joining Mijares, Maria Fernanda was a law clerk at Müggenburg Gorches y Peñalosa S.C. in the area of administrative and constitutional litigation, venturing into various matters and sectors such as pharmaceutical, health regulation, industrial property, among others. She also completed her social service at Fundación Barra Mexicana, A.C., a non-profit civil association whose purpose is to facilitate, coordinate, promote, and encourage pro bono legal work among lawyers in Mexico.

On February 20, in a landmark decision on the separation of powers with significant implications for international trade, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) does not authorize the President to impose tariffs unilaterally, as Congress has not clearly delegated its fundamental tax and tariff powers to the Executive Branch through that law.
